Dr. Jeremy Smith is a composer, theorist, educator, and entrepreneur. His works have been widely performed by ensembles such as the International Contemporary Ensemble, the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia, Perimeter Flute Quartet, Nashville In Harmony, the Huntsville Youth Orchestra, and the University of Alabama Concert Band.

Beyond the concert stage, he is a sought-after collaborator across various genres. He has worked with numerous pageantry groups, most notably Music City Drum and Bugle Corps, Chattanooga Independent Percussion Ensemble, Southwind Drum and Bugle Corps, Clarksville Audio Theatre, Music City Winds, and the University of Alabama’s Million Dollar Band. His musical contributions can also be heard on the Reckon Radio podcast Unjustifiable, which won the National Edward R. Murrow Award for Best Podcast and was narrated by Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist John Archibald.

Dr. Smith is the co-owner of SouthCoast Music & Design, a company specializing in custom marching band, indoor percussion, and indoor wind shows. Through SouthCoast, he has helped design, arrange, and consult on hundreds of productions across more than 17 states. He currently serves as the music designer and percussion arranger for the Memphis Blues Drum and Bugle Corps in Memphis, TN.

Jeremy resides in Florence, AL, where he serves as Executive Director of the Shoals Symphony at UNA. A proud alumnus of the University of North Alabama, he holds a Bachelor of Science in Instrumental Music with a minor in Philosophy. He later earned a Master’s degree in Music Theory and Composition from Middle Tennessee State University and a Doctorate in Composition from the University of Alabama. In addition to his administrative work, Jeremy is an adjunct instructor in the Department of Music at UNA, where he remains actively engaged in the region’s musical and educational communities.
