Biography

K. Lawrence is a composer, arranger, and musician pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Music Industry at Troy University. Before Troy, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps Reserves as a radio operator, allowing him to serve while completing his education. His military service has taken him overseas to Colombia, Japan, and Korea.

Lawrence’s musical journey began early— composing and arranging at the age of 15 and was serving as an assistant director for his middle school’s jazz band by 17. His collegiate performance debut came when Troy University’s vocal jazz ensemble, Frequency, premiered his jazz arrangement of the traditional English sea shanty “Leave Her, Johnny, Leave Her.”

During his time at Troy, Lawrence had the honor of being the final private student of the late Robert W. Smith, a legendary American composer and educator. Under Smith’s guidance, he developed his voice as a composer and has since written for a wide range of ensembles, including choral, band, and orchestral groups.

Now based in Orlando, Florida, Lawrence lives with his wife and their three cats. Outside of music, he is an avid runner and dedicated powerlifter – pursuits that reflect the same discipline and focus he brings to his creative work.
