Dr. Greene received a B.S. in Music Education from Troy University, an M.A. in Music Education from The University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in Music Education from The University of Alabama.
Dr. Greene is an active composer and arranger, writing halftime shows, concert pieces, and chamber music for ensembles throughout the southeast.
Dr. Greene’s research focuses on teacher effectiveness, error detection, and multivariate reasoning. His dissertation explored how band and orchestra directors determine instrumental performance error causality via satisficing, which infers outcomes based on the most extreme or apparent variables. An article developed from that study will be published in the Journal of Band Research in the spring of 2025. He was the lead researcher for the Alabama Music Teacher Census in 2019 and 2020 and has practitioner articles in The Instrumentalist, The Ala Breve, and The Horn Call. Dr. Greene has presented at the Alabama Music Educators Association Conference and the NAfME National Music Research and Teacher Education Conference.
Before his work in higher education, Dr. Greene served as a band director in public and private school settings. As the Assistant Band Director at Oak Grove High School, his ensembles performed in the BOA, SCGC, and WGI circuits, securing multiple regional championship victories. As Director of Bands at Trinity Presbyterian School, his marching and concert ensembles received consistently superior ratings at music performance assessments.
Dr. Greene is a member of The National Association for Music Education, the Society for Research in Music Education, the Alabama Music Educators Association, ASCAP, the Suzuki Association of the Americas, and the International Horn Society.
